Jamaica’s Love Affair with the Mesh Marina

Image result for jamaican string vest

Another fantastic article that illustrates the celebration of Jamaican identity within there fashion. This article high lights key areas of where the string vest (Mesh Marina) came from and who popularised the style of dress, that inspired designs like Tommy Hilfiger’s 2016 Summer collection and entertainers like Gwen Stefani, Rita Ora and may more.

This source has been particularly useful as it has made me think more deeply about the groups of people who wore and celebrated this style of fashion and what this fashion was a symbol of to people that wore this like the Rude Boys, who were viewed as political divines and outcasts in Jamaican society. It has made me question the value of these clothes as pieces of protest and propaganda
